The Society has four categories of membership: Active Members, Honorary Life Members, Associates, and Student Associates. The requirements for each of the membership categories are given below.
Dues for Active Members and Associates are $20 per year. Dues for Student Associates are $5 per year.

Membership Categories
- 1. Active Members
- Active members shall be geologists and persons engaged principally in geologic work, provided they are graduates of an institution of collegiate standing in which institution they have done their major work in geology, and provided further that an applicant for membership who has not had the required collegiate or university training, but whose standing in the profession is well recognized, shall be admitted to membership when his application shall have been unanimously approved by the Executive Board and the Member Committee.
- 2. Honorary Life Members
- Honorary Life Members shall be those who, by unanimous vote of the Membership Committee and the Executive Board, have made outstanding contribution to the profession, the science of geology, the advancement of the science, or the advancement of the Ohio Geological Society.
- 3. Associates
- Associates shall be those person whose work is related to the petroleum industry or the science of geology, but who do not utilize the requirements set forth for active members.
- 4. Student Associates
- Student Associates shall be graduate students or senior undergraduates in geology in an educational institution of recognized standing.
